The United Nations has designated 2026 as the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists (IYRP). In celebration of IYRP, the Royal Australian Mint presents a splendid new $1 uncirculated coin.

Rangelands cover about 75% of Australia’s landmass, and span many different types of environments – woodlands, grasslands, shrublands, deserts and tropical savannahs. They include incredibly diverse landscapes, such as the Pilbara in WA, the vast Red Centre, the Barkly Tableland in the NT, and the Channel Country extending from Queensland. With the vast space they occupy in both a physical and cultural sense, our rangelands are very much the heart and soul of the nation.

This 2026 $1 Uncirculated Coin celebrates Australia’s rangelands and pastoralists – as does the beautiful presentation card it is housed in. The card features a section of a linocut print created especially for this coin program by artist Elyssa Waterford.
